a new series that has been long over due, ‘favorite looks for girls’ will document how we want our future ex-girlfriends to dress. up first is the classic ‘boyfriend tee,’ with this model coming to you from James Perse. note the dropped shoulder seams – this shirt should also be bought a size or two too big, completing the Sunday-morning-panties-and-knee socks look. it also helps if its well-worn / seen a few dryer cycles. this would also kill with jeans and Chucks. other honorable mentions in this category: androgynous tee’s by Cheap Monday and American Apparel.

David Choe, street artist turned fine artist has been getting busy on his travels in China. He is having a solo show in Beijing titled Death Blossom, opening April 4th, and the show will be opening at three different spaces on the same night. I love his works whether they be in the streets or in the studio, as Choe just has that raw and energy-filled style that is characteristic of his work. Here are some of my favorite works from his Chinese trip so far after the jump…

WTAPS returns with their 2009-1st collection, entitled LAMF (like a motherf*cker), and the looks are pretty fresh, seemingly inspired by punk, military, bowling, and brit prep. like a lot of high-end Japanese designers, WTAPS has an awesome philosophy, a ton of high-profile collaborations under their belt, and a product that is damn near impossible to come by unless you live in Japan, London, NY, or LA. more pics from the lookbook after the jump.

This is the second addition to our ‘New Favorite Blog’ section here at 84/85 and this time around we introduce, ‘1001 rules for my unborn son.’ This blog is amazing, I love everything from the concept to the content. The quotes are priceless, the pictures are on point and the audio ties in greatly. Have a read through and you can probably pick out some rules to live by even if you have already been born…

this comes to you from YVR, waiting for my redeye to MTL.. thank goodness I’ve had phenomenal soundtrack to the last few crazy days and nights of goodbyes, packing, and cleaning, and I’m sure these anthems will carry through to my new scenery, friends and blurry encounters in dark places. after months (years even) of anticipation, Vitaminsforyou‘s new record, ‘He Closed His Eyes So He Could Dance With You,’ finally arrived at my favorite record store, Ditch, thanks to my good friend Chris. the 9 songs are far more dance-oriented than any prior V4U material, and Bryce Kushnier (who is the totality of V4U) sings on every track, another first. the melodies and composition remain as complex, beautiful, and emotional as ever, and after many listens on repeat, I would definitely say this LP was worth the wait. its available digitally on iTunes, but I would recommend heading to your local record shop and buying the CD to get DRM-free material. V4U is also currently on a full western Canadian tour, and I can only imagine how well these songs would translate live.. here’s the title track and also my current favorite:
Vitaminsforyou – He Closed His Eyes So He Could Dance With You
on another note, I hope to actually start regularly blogging again within the next few days.. stay tuned.
