iPhone OS 3.0

picture-115

Hallelujah! iPhone OS 3.0 update will be here this summer! when I switched from Blackberry one of the features I bemoaned losing the most was the ability to cut/copy/paste, which is great for storing numbers and quoting people to other people. Apple will also include the ability to compose text and emails in ‘landscape’ mode (when the phone is sideways, allowing for a bigger keyboard), and will provide an embedded ’spotlight’ search tool to go through your entire phone, just like the one in the top right corner of your Mac OS. watch the terribly dressed Apple honchos give the full presentation here.

Clayton Cubitt

picture-82

Clayton Cubitt is a photographer who works in both the artistic and commercial fields, shooting mostly portraiture and fashion. women, sex, and the macabre seem to dominate much of his work, but it was his profile series of survivors and volunteers shot in the days immediately after hurricane Katrina that really caught my eye.. the grit and tragedy of the event really seems to come through in the photos. check his website to see the breadth of his work, and more Katrina shots after the jump.

Flying Coffin S/S 09

picture-32

another killer line out of Seattle, Flying Coffin have just dropped their spring/summer 2009 collection. one of the few lines I like that is heavily graphic-based, Flying Coffin bring the metal and dark magic symbology with intricate prints and way left-field designs. hit the jump for some more s/s 09 looks.

hating on: Nike ‘Tiempo’ shoe

nike_sportswear_lance_armstrong_foundation_livestrong_collection_031

nike_sportswear_lance_armstrong_foundation_livestrong_collection_04

part of the Nike x Livestrong ‘Stages’ collection, this redesigned soccer shoe has been updated for apparent needs of the ‘inner city bike rider’ (read: fixed gear trendjumping). it’s not that I can easily hate on something where partial proceeds go to cancer research, or where legitimate, devoted cyclists were actually part of the design process.. it’s just that Nike did what they’ve always done – wait for something to establish itself a mainstream presence (like skateboarding or snowboarding), then jump on board under a veil of credibility through consultations and sponsorships, all just to enter a new product market, stomp on the share of the little guys, and cut a fat profit through shady manufacturing practices and price-point undercutting. plus the shoes look way over-detailed and have ugly colorways! I’m no anarchist, and very few corporations can get me riled up (despite my No Logo manifesto past), but Nike (along with Coke and Mcdonalds) is one of the few behemoths I truly despise.. I’ll stick with my Vans, please and thanks.

College ft. Electric Youth – ‘She Never Came Back’

here’s the latest video effort from the Valerie, the French collective who have been weaving beautiful melodies and 80′s dreams for the last few years. ‘She Never Came Back’ comes off College‘s album ‘Secret Diary,’ which has been getting tons of play both at work and at home for months now.. a worthwhile purchase in 320 from Beatport. and while the video itself isn’t really that impressive, it fits in really well with the whole Valerie aesthetic of a highly stylized past re-imagined for the present.

Fiber & Fellow A/W 2009 Preview

picture-151

Fiber & Fellow is a line that has really been catching my attention as of late. They have recently updated their website with their a/w 2009 lookbook, and as I expected it is nothing short of perfect. The lookbook is beautifully shot as are the pieces that are previewed. With so many lines jumping onto this whole outdoorsman/workwear trend in fashion it is nice to discover another line that does the look authentically, Fiber & Fellow are looking authentic to me. More pics after the jump… Continue reading

preview: Actual Pain S/S 09

100_1813

100_1825

100_1828

100_1838

here is a look at a new tee style from Actual Pain as part of their spring/summer 09 line. cut and printed in the same city as they are designed (Seattle), this is just another reason why AP is so damn fierce. also, we’ve been re-bumping the Krames mixtape for AP all week.. head to his myspace to download for free, its one of the hypest mixes of last year no doubts. and once the full s/s 09 line drops from Actual Pain, you know you’ll see it here (and on our bodies).

Lifelike Sundays

picture-14

there are about three Van She versions of this song and a handful of remixes.. strangely enough, I like them all. truly one of the most beautiful songs of the last few years, Lifelike doesn’t stray too far from the original here, just smoothes out the synths and solidifies the kick.. another summer anthem.
