this was one of the first Likelike songs that I truly fell in love with, and I’ve played this one out DJing many a time.. plus it ranks quite high in my iTunes top 25. good for cheering yourself up on a grey day, strutting in the sun, filling a dancefloor, or bumping in the car, this is the kind of versatile house jam that makes Lifelike the extra-special producer he is.

Supermal – Bigger Than Big (Lifelike remix)

Beams Spring/Summer 2009

beams

Here is a look at the Beams Spring/Summer 2009 collection, courtesy of Michael from A Continuous Lean. This Japanese line has succeeded once again in bringing some great pieces and collaborations to the market. For this collection they have teamed up with the likes of Dickies, Post Overalls, Kelty, Champion, Birdwell and Levis, all American greats. It seems Japanese lines just do the American heritage styles so much better than…well, the Americans. I just love the fact that they could get Dickies to do a madras print trouser and Champion to do something other than a basic looking sweatshirt. These items are basically look but don’t touch material, unless you speak Japanese and can navigate their site, or are planning a trip to Japan – otherwise enjoy just looking at these distant treasures. More looks after the jump…

Actual Pain x JOTS

jots_tape

Seattle-based line Actual Pain, favorite of the 84/85 boys, returns with a new mix for their ongoing series, this time compiled by Canadian superhero producers Jokers Of The Scene. the result is a more dense, driving techno sound by the scene-expanding DJs, and does much justice to the excellent AP mix tradition. from the official writeup:

THIS DARK, BROODING MIXTAPE MARKS A DEPARTURE IN JOTS SOUND OF LATE. STILL INCREDIBLY CATCHY AND DANCEABLE ALTHOUGH NOW POSSESSING A BLEAK, INDUSTRIAL TONE, JOKERS OF THE SCENE ARE SET TO REINVENT THE WHEEL ON THIS ONE, LIKELY STARTING A REVOLUTION OF MAD MAX PROPORTIONS. FREE TO DOWNLOAD AND ENJOY COURTESY OF ACTUAL PAIN AND FOOL’S GOLD RECORDS.

Admiration: CYC

displaypicturebyidaspxfor those who haven’t joined the cult of CYC admirers yet, they are the Vancouver-based design corporation responsible for materials and manufacturing for some of the top lines in the business, like Alife and Supreme, while at the same time producing their much sought-after Wings + Horns label. however, it is their lower-priced basics line Reigning Champ that is the favorite of the 84/85 team.. I pretty sure we both own at least two or more of their amazing pieces, with flawless cuts, simple details, and top quality fabrics making the super-reasonable price points (like a hoodie for $110-ish) easy to swallow. and, the product is made in Vancouver, so you know everyone got paid a living wage who was involved. it seems as if what CYC does is so simple, yet they’ve created a template for an industry that is still dead-set on overseas manufacturing and inflated prices. I think every up-and-coming designer or line in Canada or the USA could learn a lot from what CYC has accomplished, and use their business model as a path towards fair wages and practices with producing their product. anyway, check out more of the awesome Reigning Champ spring/summer 2009 collection after the jump, and look for the label at your local discerning boutique.

Baby Dayliner

thanks to my friend AK for showing me this.. Baby Dayliner is probably my new favorite band, and the above video will show you just why. potentially The Cure for our generation?.. there’s something about dramatic, nihilistic lyrics with a deadpan delivery that I’ll never grow tired of.

Vans Supercorsa Fall 2009

Wants and Needs: hooded shirt

ships-jet-blue-hooded-shirt-021

subtle gingham, a slim cut, and a hood.. yeah, Wants and Needs is definitely the case. retailing for about $160 Canadian, this shirt would be great for summer nights with cutoff jeans and Vans slips with no socks. this style from Ships Jet Blue may be hard to come by in the domestic market, and it seems as if all web retailers are entirely in Japanese, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to get my hands on this one.. that is, until Urban Outfitters makes a knockoff for $40.. more detail shots after the jump.

Tony Ward

28557d0e19f4

Tony Ward has always been a favorite of mine.. Madonna’s go-to accessory through much of the early 90′s, Ward was one of the original male supermodels, and has worked on campaigns for Fendi, Boss, D&G, and of course, Calvin Klein underwear. Ward has this kind of uber-masculinity to him, complete with the bad tattoos and cigarettes, and I like how he has aged in a haggard way – it makes him seem more real. anyway, thanks to my friend Scott for forwarding me these images, and check for more after the jump.
