The latest entry in the go-to summer album category, Discovery‘s ’LP’ brings all the earnest indie R&B melody that I’ve come to love from bands like No Kids and the Junior Boys. The project of Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot’s Wes Miles, some of the songs sound like beats from dirty south rap with rolling snares and ticking hi hats, and Miles manages to use the vocoder in a way that doesn’t come off T-Pain-ish. There’s a few moments that are a bit much (such as the Jackson 5 takeoff ‘I Want You Back’) so I wouldn’t put this album up against the new Phoenix or Black Moth Super Rainbow, but overall it’s a solid sunny day listen… there two songs especially:
Discovery – Swing Tree
Discovery – Osaka Loop Line

I actually really like this, Osaka loop line is kinda stupid with all the stops (but the chorus is actually really really good) but Swing Tree is nice all round. Definitely both good summer listening though.
This is more fucked up then I would expect from two bands with hype on their side though, which is refreshing (as opposed if they released a neo-folk, bon iver-esque project – which lets be honest I would eat up)
