Mike Fiz

Big ups to MTL homeboy Mike Fiz for this recent interview on BMX Union. Like the interviewer says in his intro, Mike is the kind of guy who enjoys riding for all the right reasons, and is always a super positive dude to be around. I met Mike through the Brakeless fam and definitely respect both his gnar power and his attitude towards life… and the fact he seems to attract only the finest girls. Anway, enjoy this edit put together by another all around nice guy, Alex Ji.

Throwback: Dipset ‘Diplomatic Immunity’

The Diplomats 2003 release ‘Diplomatic Immunity’ is definitely a quintessential east-coast rap album for me, coming at the peak of the Cam’ron / Juelz Sanata / Jim Jones working relationship and their ensuing commercial success. Dipset style was the on another level, with the crack rap, imagery, and wordplay miles ahead of their contemporaries. The above video for ‘Crunk Muzik’ might just contain my favorite Cam verse ever, with him spending half his part basically just saying weird things that happen rhyme. Hell Rell contributes some grimy cred as he was locked up when the album was released (obligatory jailhouse phone freestyle) , and the production by Just Blaze and Heatmakerz is hype street anthem type stuff that allows for the kind of catchphrase making that became the Dip’s signature style. All the artists on this record have had strong careers on their own, but put together at their most cohesive and the result is definitely classic material

APC Fall/Winter 2009 Collection

apc-2009-fall-winter-collection-10APC returns with a full look into their f/w 09 retail offerings, and while the line never deviates much from their defined aesthetic from season to season, that’s probably not a bad thing as they remain one of the most stylistically reliable lines on the market today. This lookbook incorporates some pieces that are a bit WTF, such as the Ugg-looking boots and the white hazmat jumpsuit, but otherwise I love everything going on here, especially the nautical crewneck (pictured above) and bleach-splashed black denim. Look for this collection to be rolling in over the next month at your local APC stocklist. More looks after the jump, and thanks to Hypebeast for the images.

For Thousands of Miles

Spearheaded by Mike Ambs and Amanda Walker, For Thousands of Miles is a forthcoming documentary about riding from the pacific coast to the atlantic, and the change of perceptive that comes with completing such a journey. The cinematography looks crazy: there is really nothing I love more than a beautifully shot cycling sequence. To find out more, visit the above linked site, or Project Pedal.

Free Max B!

Times aren’t easy for former Dipset member Max B… after a robbery went all wrong and his girl snitched, Max is looking at life in prison… which he already managed to avoid once. Watch the above video for the full rundown on Max’s legal problems. Unfortunately, Jim Jones isn’t going to be there for him this time, as apparently there’s a huge rift between the man born Charles Wingate and his former associates in the Diplomats and Byrd Gang. With sentancing set for July 31st, it looks like the long-awaited full length debut album will never see the light of day. Instead we’ll have to make do with his legacy of mixtapes and guest appearances over the last few years, which for the most part has all been pretty classic material. I don’t think there’s been a stronger singer/rapper than Max B since he’s been in the game, and it’s gonna be sad to see him locked up. FREE MAX B!

Max B – Flash Dance

Max B – Lump Sums (ft. Jim Jones & NOE)

both tracks come from my favorite mixtape release, ‘Public Domain 2 (Rise of the Silver Surfer)’

HUF x Jansport

huf-jansport-duffel-backpack-2huf-jansport-duffel-backpack-3

These two beauty pieces are the result of a collaboration between SF’s HUF and Jansport, based out of San Leandro, CA. Consisting of the ‘Snoqualmie’ duffel and the ‘Westridge’ backpack, this mini capsule collection will be available in limited runs at select Huf accounts starting August 13th. I have always respected Jansport, truly a classic American brand, and for me their plain, solid color backpacks are emblematic of the underground hip hop culture I loved for so many years. These pieces are gorgeous, with the worn brown leather playing off the black body perfectly. Definitely an option to consider if you’re in the market for a new bag or two.

Vans A/W 2009

van0087blk_01

Obviously /85 and I couldn’t be more into Vans.. ever since I made the conversion from Chucks I’ve been super happy with the brand as my basic go-to shoe. The durability is second to none, and style are so widely ranging that there’s really something for everyone. We get the most wear our of them as bike riding shoes, which they’re amazing for.. especially suede joints like the Eras pictured above. And while I personally prefer an Authentic, this mini a/w 09 collection that just arrived at Oki-Ni features some really nice looking Eras, Slips, and SK8 Highs, with suede and quilted patterns playing off the (mostly) simple black and white colorways. Keep reading for more looks from this nice little collection.
