Expo ’67 Postcards

expo5

As my time in Montreal now has an expiry date, I’m super stoked to have stumbled upon these Expo 1967 postcards memorializing the amazing structures from the event. The one pictured above is of my favorite MTL landmark, Habitat 67, designed by architect Moshe Safdie specifically for the event. Now some of the most desirable housing in the city, seeing these interconnected cubes up close is quite striking, truly a hallmark of Modernist design. The stamp of Expo (and the 1976 summer Olympics) is all over this city, and is an integral part of the character and aesthetic that make Montreal so great. Keep reading for a few more of my favorites, and check Alamedainfo for the full collection.

  1. Hi there!

I stumbled upon your site looking at examples of wordpress sites. I must say, those postcards look awesome! Especially those cube-shaped houses!! What is that about? Is that real or just a concept?

  3. Stumbled here from the log-on page. Great cards!
As a native of Montreal, they brought back a lot of memories.

  4. Okay…got a question for you. In the top postcard, how in the world do you put Christmas lights on your apartment if you live there? lol.

  12. Hard to believe, but when you reverse the 67 to 76, in 9 short years after Expo 67, the same city would host the XXI Summer Olympics.
