Head Porter Plus Fall 2009

Picture 1

Spotted over on Hyr, the fall 09 line by Head Porter Plus is hitting all the right notes of subtlety, featuring oxfords, wool slacks, and a few patterned shirts. This Japan-only collection may or may not be making it’s way to the North American market in the not too-distant future, but for now is only available through the Honeyee online shop. I really like the classic prep school aesthetic the line is working with, especially the grey trousers and the thin tartan belt. Hit the jump for more pieces from this collection.

Owen ‘New Leaves’

8292635

Finally, the album I’ve been waiting on with bated breath, to see how my favorite singer/songwriter would evolve as his subject material (broken hearts, drunkenness, bitterness) had seem to have run it’s course. Newly married and with a more commercial audience than ever, Owen returns with ‘New Leaves,’ a collection of beautifully composed songs with a new lyrical direction involving  semblances of hope, reflection on regrets, and the happiness found in routine and familiarity. Musically Owen’s always hyper-melodic finger-picked guitar arrangements are complimented by warm string arrangements, soft xylophone, and well thought-out drums, and overall I would count this LP as a huge success; perhaps nothing will ever sound like the Owen of 5 years ago, but if he keeps making solid records like this well in to the future, I couldn’t be happier (ps: support good music! buy the vinyl or something).

Outlier Workwear Pant

OUTLIER-Workwear-Zack-Tracks

So good to see a product like this front-and-center on the meanswear market. Brendan and I have been talking about the need for a slim-cut workwear pant for a long time now… we both spent our teen years wearing Dickies and Carharts, but now in our 20′s we just can’t rock the baggy steez. Simple, modern, and functional, Outlier hits it out of the park with these pants, catering to a demographic hungry for an tough everyday alternative to jeans. In their words,

‘We started with the fabric, we wanted something that was both more durable than denim yet also more comfortable. We found it in the Outlier Doubleweave Canvas, a fabric that can take a serious beating yet feels great against the skin. The outer weave is a tough Cordora® canvas, the inside a soft brushed back. It’s highly water resistant, quick drying and breathes incredibly well so you get none of that clammy constriction of wet denim. The self-cleaning Lotus treatment keeps you looking crisp and smelling great. A curved waistband and gusseted crotch ensure full freedom of movement, just throw them on and start your day, let’s go.’

More looks after the jump.

The Impossible Hour

Brendan posted this clip a few days ago on the GOC blog and I think it’s too good not to share with a wider audience. Documenting Danish cyclist Ole Ritter‘s hour record attempts in 1974, the narration and filming make this necessary viewing for anyone who rides a track bike, or even just has an appreciation for cycling in general. Enjoy this look into the rider, his goal, and the ‘wunderbike.’

Apolis Activism S/S 2010

Apolis_SP10_print-7

Apolis Activism, which continues to be one of my favorite brands for the last few seasons, has just released a preview of their Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The line is looking exactly as you would expect, clean and classic, taking inspiration from workwear and military styling. The collection is full of great pieces such as shirts, tees, jackets, shorts and denim. They have produced grey, indigo and natural colored selvedge denim jeans, with my favorite being the natural color, with no dye or color used at all. Apolis are also know for their work with humanitarian groups, and this time around they have produced three special pieces, the philanthropist tote bag for the Uganda project, the Transit Elite sweater with Rapha for the Nepal Project, and the Officer and Civilian belts for the Ecuador Project. The brothers from Apolis Activism do it again with another impressive collection and special projects, making them a beacon of hope in this vast ocean of a menswear market. Supreme x Mickey Mouse

mickey-mouse-supreme-collection-1

I’m a huge fan of Mickey imagery… I’ve been collecting vintage Mouse pieces for a while now, the prize of which being an original white crew neck sweater straight from Anaheim in the 1970′s, in perfect condition. That being said, I would definitely mess with these two Supreme pieces, as you know the quality of cotton would be top notch and  the fits would be on point. If you’re man enough to rock Mickey in public there’s not a lot anyone can say to you… eff the haters. Also, expect a future post of my personal Mickey collection once I return to my boxes of clothing in the next couple weeks.

A Closer Look: INVADER

Nowadays it is common place to be walking down the street and see a tag or piece of graffiti, wheatpasted poster, sticker, or any other type of street or public art. Some of these pieces enhance our surroundings while others can be an eyesore and take away from them. There are plenty of street artist who are really devoted and passionate about what they do and the work which they create and INVADER is definitely one of them. He takes graffiti or street art to different levels with his unique style and utilization of materials, high and low, from using rubix cubes to ceramic tiles to binary code and iphone applications. Jetsetgraffiti has done a two part series on the Invader talking about his goals and inspirations as well as his style and techniques used to pull of his works. Invader is one of my favorite street artists in the game today, he really pushes the bounds of graffiti and street art, keeping it creative and new.

Fall Arrivals: Woolrich Wollen Mills @ Blackbird

woolrich10

Blackbird in Seattle has to be one of my favorite shops at it today, from their own unique take and style with the way they run their store and blog, to the pieces that they carry. So I knew they would choose wisely with the Woolrich Wollen Mills Fall 2009 collection, which I am also a huge fan of. The pieces that they have selected are looking amazing, actually perfect in my books. The Ripstop Parka and Upland jacket have to be my favorites, but they are all great pieces. Keep reading for more looks and check Blackbirds online shop for these and more great fall items.
