Dickies x Stussy

dickies stussydickies stussy2

Stussy is a brand that I will always love, it was one of the first streetwear/skate brands and still remains true to their roots and where they came from. Another line that I will also always remain faithful to is Dickies, as they are such a classic brand that I grew up wearing. So it is nice to see the two team up for this collaborative effort producing 2 styles of pants, the supreme chino and cord, both available in a variety of colours. Dickies have been getting some love with the colaborations as of late with the likes of Alife, Beams, mastermind, SOPH, and now Stussy with this project. J.Crew Spring/Summer 2010 Preview

j crew spring 117

Secret Forts brings us a look at the upcoming spring/summer 2010 collection from J.Crew. The collection is looking solid as expected, with a heavy dose of workwear-inspired casual pieces and some nice looking suiting. The stand out part of the collection for me are the collaborations, with the likes of Barracuda, Rogues Gallery, Alden, Redwing, Russell Mocs, Ray-Ban, Timex, and the newest addition the Hill-Side. That is quite an impressive list to boast, and if collaborations are their strong point, then it shows J.Crew are really paying attention. It is not just the collabs that I am  feeling; I really like the full colour selection of chambrays as well as the fireman jacket. Keep reading for the full collection…

Runriot Records

RRLOGO_BombThrow_whiteback

My time in Montreal was a huge turning point for me musically, both in personal taste and as a DJ. Getting to spend quality time with the Turbo Crunk (RIP) crew turned me on to a lot of new artists, sub-genres and progressions I’d yet to fully explore. At current all styles of electronic music are saturated with prolific, talented producers, but it’s artists working on the more experimental side of things, pushing a distinct club alternative to the banger ‘blog house’ scene that has dominated dancefloors and the internet for the last few years, that have been the most exciting to see come to the forefront. One of the labels doing it best has to be Runriot, a collective started by ex-Brooklyn-now-Victoria native Kitimat. With a roster including Graintable, Gouseion, and Vincent Parker, there’s an abundance of quality forward-thinking sounds coming out of the pacific northwest, and Runriot is providing a viable outlet for these artists to gain meaningful exposure. A recent addition to the team is fellow Victorian LSP, who I’ve spoken of before in admiration. Here’s a recent promo mix he made of new releases coming from the label:

LSP – Run Riot Promote Yourself Mix

and as a bonus, here’s Graintable’s latest heater, a remix for fellow Portland resident Gouseion:

Gousieon – We’re In Highschool (Graintable remix)

hit the jump for the mix tracklist, and make sure to visit the Runriot site for more mixes, tracks, and artist info.

Nom de Guerre Fall 2009 Lookbook

Picture 23

One of my personal favourite lookbooks of this season was Nom de Guerre’s for their fall 2009 collection. A lookbook is an integral part of a line and the way in which they present themselves nowadays. With so many new brands out there you have to set yourself apart somehow, and a great way to do that is provide the consumer with the full package: a well designed quality line, previewed in the right manner. Nome de Guerre really pulls the full package together with this one for their Fall 2009 collection. The presentation is well done with great photography by Erik Swain as well as an interesting theme and perfect styling, not to mention the line itself is amazing. Keep reading for the full lookbook…

Feeling It: Penfield Kasson 60/40 Parka

penfield kasson

The 60/40 Parka, referring to the cotton / nylon blend of the jacket, has been a classic piece of outdoors wear for decades, and it’s a piece that I would really like to get my hands on. Penfield has done this great 60/40 parka named the Kasson for their current collection. The look is classic and the colors are on point, available in beige, red, black and navy, with a red and black buffalo check interior. This styling looks to be perfect, giving in that old school 70′s outdoors wear vibe, which I am feeling at the moment. I would take one in beige or navy, and the fair price of $165 USD definitely makes it obtainable.

Base Control x Harris Tweed

base-control-harris-tweed-3

Japanese brand Base Control have recently done a line constructed with Scottish staple Harris Tweed, and the result is some seriously good looking packs and accessories for the modern urban environment. Subtle style points and minimal branding give the backpacks an adult look, and I even feel the fanny packs and cell holders. Harris Tweed is failsafe, be it blazers, ties, or now luggage: further proof that what’s old is new again. Hit the jump for more from this run (pics via SlamX).

Tom Ford for SENSE Magazine

Dressing-The-Man-Tom-Ford-41

As I’ve previously raved about, Tom Ford absolutely killed it for fall 09. The designer’s work is the watermark for American luxury, and sets the example for how to dress if one’s income is in the 7 figures… This editorial for Japan’s SENSE Magazine showcases some solid current seasonal attire styled to perfection for the office, the holiday party, or for a quick jaunt to Monaco. Ford is one of the few high-end designers who blows me away on a consistent basis, so to see his pieces put together in such a tight editorial is quite the pleasure. Keep reading for more, and thanks to SwipeLife for the tip.

Keith Haring Subway Advertisements

keith haring subway4

There seems to be a recurring theme on the blog as of late, the defacing and or altering of public advertisements, with the Kaws bus stop ads as well as the New York Street Advertising Takeover. So I wanted to post these great and early works done by the iconic Keith Haring. Haring is one of the most famous painters of our time, with his characteristic style of painting as well as his own personal. He was probably one of the first artists to utilize the commercial advertising space in a public place, specifically those in the underground subway tunnels of New York to create his own works. He would place large pieces of black paper over existing ads in the NY subway tunnels and stations, then draw his own work in chalk right there on the spot. The idea was so smart and simple, he would reach a large number of commuters on a daily basis, creating huge exposure for his work. Keith Haring went on to become a world famous artist but it was these works that started his legendary career. Keep reading for the entire collection of Haring in the subways….
