Yep, it may seem pretty un-stylish and somewhat mundane… but being a winter cyclist on the Wet (west) Coast necessitates a serious winter kit to keep you warm and dry if you want to stay riding all season. Right now I’m powering through a typical monsoon November trip to Vancouver. Last night we saw the premier of The Revival, an excellent new fixed-gear flic featuring talent from Van, Seattle, NYC, and Toronto. Rad turnout and good times all around (even though my stomach was straight churned after my Goat Sprints loss…), but damn, the rain! The added fact it’s getting quite cold out doesn’t help either; so, it’s time to throw down the cash on the real-deal winter getup if I want to avoid numb appendages and possibly the dreaded flu for the next three months. It’s simple items like a waterproof backpack, shoe-covers, and waterproof over-pants that will make all the difference, and places like Mountain Equipment Co-op and Coast Mountain Sports can help keep the cost down (although 84/85 always endorses supporting small local businesses like bike shops). Hit the jump to see the rest of the gear I plan to acquire for a more comfortable winter cycling experience.
