A.P.C. Winter 2010 Collection

A.P.C. is a fan favourite here with the 84/85 boys, we have previewed their collections a few times before and both have a few pairs of their denim. It is just one of those lines that can’t do any wrong, with their slim cuts, clean styles and overall great looking aesthetic. This time we bring you a look at their winter 2010 collection. This drop is once again nothing short of perfect (in my books), the looks are styled well with a good mix of colour and pattern, paired with great fits. I love the ‘step-dad’ washed jean, the sheep skin jacket and the sheep skin lined Indian boots. This collection shows once again why A.P.C. are leaders in the menswear market. Keep reading for my favourite looks…

DJ/rupture + Matt Shadetek Album Sampler

Founders of the highly influential Dutty Artz collective based out of Brooklyn,  DJ/rupture and Matt Shadetek have a new collaborative album out entitled ‘Solar Life Raft.’ I’ve been listening to the LP on high rotation lately, enjoying the future dubstep/grime/ragga perspective of the two forward-thinking producers who are making+promoting some of the best music in the genre(s) currently coming out of North America. This video album sampler, animated and directed by Sara Taigher, contains clips of some of the album’s best tracks, and provides stunning accompanying visuals. The Dutty Artz aesthetic is as credible and authentic as you’ll find in the blogosphere, and it’s been great to watch their consistency and progression over the last few years. Highly recommended to pick up the album via Beatport.

Brand Respect: Nudie Jeans

It seems strange that we wouldn’t have profiled Nudie here before… but maybe there’s a reason. Nudie is a line that has blown up massive over the last few years, with the contrast pocket wave stitching reaching near ubiquitous levels of visibility in your average 20-something gathering. The line has such a wide range of denim cuts, producing a fit for basically everyone. The thing that makes Nudie different from other lines is the fact they don’t change their collection very much from season to season (the denim barely at all), and that they never produce lookbooks, ad campaigns, or basically any other form of promotional material. Hence, no pretty images, hence, little blog love. But four years after buying my first pair, I’m still a die-hard Nudie fanatic. The Thin Finn cut is the best fitting jean I’ve ever worn, period, and you can’t argue with Japanese denim sewn in Italy. At current I have 5 pairs going in my rotation, with one being my beat-to-hell cycling jean that refuses to die. Another thing I love about the line is their work with Amnesty International, who they’ve supported for years through the ‘Human Rights Collection.’ Offering a huge selection of tops, denim, and accessories, Nudie is a brand that is doing it proper, and will be a major player in the market for years to come… and if you’ve yet to try on their jeans, do yourself a favour and find your local stocklist.

Dana Lee Spring/Summer 2010

Dana Lee is a menswear fashion label based out of New York, that made its debut this current season with their F/W 09 collection. Lee is originally from Vancouver B.C. and formerly founded A-Z Collection, an accessories line we had featured here previously. I was a fan of her small but honest offering for F/W 09, but her spring/summer 2010 collection is looking even better. The lookbook is shot on Polaroid, giving it a vintage/gritty feel that works well with the overall aesthetic of the collection. The pieces are looking solid with a heavy amount of chambray and an overall look of clean refined staples, with a vintage feel. I especially love the leather jean jacket, the chambray shirts and the all-season parka. It is always inspiring to see local talent making an impact in the market, which is something we are always happy to support. Keep reading for the full lookbook…

Falty DL x XLR8R

XLR8R recently chatted/chopped it up with one of the true current future merchants of electronic music, Falty DL. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting the man last night, before he played a high-energy set of new dubstep, garage, and overall bass magic. Drew Lustman is a consummate nice guy, and his perspective on music is  breath of fresh air in the extremely overcrowded producer’s market. Honing in on the smooth shuffle feel of UK garage with a NYC twist, Falty DL’s recordings over the course of 2009 have been some of the most critically acclaimed productions of the year, and to have it backed up with a genuine quality human reality makes it even better.. let’s just say the 84/85 boys were getting loose on the dancefloor all night. Check out this vid as Lustman explains both his musical inspirations and how to craft the perfect Atlantic roll.

Haywood Suits @ Steven Alan

haywood

For a guy who works in a high end menswear/suiting store it may seem a bit odd that I don’t personally own a suit. I fit and sell suits on the daily, so its not like I don’t know what I want or I can’t find something that fits properly, its the fact that I prefer to dress on the more casual side of things, jeans and button-downs. So if I was to own a suit (right now) I would want something that works with my overall aesthetic, more rugged/casual, and suits usually don’t fit in that category. So when I noticed the Haywood suiting collection that is now exclusively available at Steven Alan, which has a more low profile style, I was pleasantly surprised. The cuts are slim but casual, done in a “soft brushed cotton oxford from Japan in fall tones, and two incredible cotton/wool blends from Italy.” I could see myself in a suit like this more than your traditional, formal black suit, its a bit more my vibe, rugged but refined. Check the suit in action on the town in these great shots by Dan Weaver, with more after the jump…

A Closer Look: Trench Coats Fall/Winter 2009

BurLNDjae1_2Web

With the launch of ‘Art Of The Trench‘ by Burberry in collaboration with The Sartorialist, trench coats have been brought back in to the internet style blogger forefront. The above pic is one of a series that the Sart is shooting for Burberry, and the accompanying site is curated impeccably. I’ve always thought of rocking a trench, but I just don’t want to come off like Jack the Ripper or Inspector Gadget. However, this campaign is looking so on point; I think to rock the 3/4 trench properly (at my age) you have to bring the brit-punk attitude, like the young gent steezing so hard above. Combat boots, skinny beat-up denim, a big wool scarf, and a subtle, worn-in shoulder bag are the key accompanying pieces. I’d probably end up going for the classic black Burberry joint with the grey/white/black plaid liner, but there’s offerings by Aquascutum, Dior, John Richmond, Mackintosh, and 3.1 Philip Lim that are killer too. Hit the jump to see these pieces, and a few more choice shots from the Sart.

Throwback: Alexisonfire ‘Pulmonary Archery’

Coming back from my mini vacation yesterday, my friend Ben and I listened to punk the whole truck ride to and from the cities and ferry… and the last thing we put on was Alexisonfire, a band oh-so prominent at the end of my high school years and well in to the university days. And while I can’t say I’ve thrown on a screamo record in years (unless At The Drive In counts), hearing this really brought me back. After a day of great cycling and the emotion of saying goodbye to so many people I love and miss dearly, it was the perfect soundtrack; raw and heavy, with a large dose of youth energy. Not something I can listen to on the regular, but certainly welcome in the right time and place.
