Wants and Needs: Quoddy Ring Boots

I have been in the market for a pair of  moccasin style shoes/boots for a little while now. I also wanted to get something a bit different than your traditional moccasin style, so insert the Ring Boot done by Quoddy. The boot features a ring style closure with a beautiful heavy leather upper, crepe or chrompak sole finished with hand sewn details. All of the Quoddy products are hand made in Maine with the entire Quoddy catalogue being impressive, but its these ring boots that really catch my eye. I know I would want to do the crepe sole but now the only thing is what colour, black or brown?

  1. ok i know im an asshole, but jesus christ! really? these things…. when are the merry men going to show up? watch out for the sheriff of nottingham and his guards.

  2. Well matt, you’re right about one thing …and it’s not the Quoddy’s.

I’ve had a pair of the black ones now for a few months and I think they look a little more “formal”, going equally well with jeans and khakis. The squishy crepe soles are the way to go adding a nice cushion to your step for hiking the urban jungles and tackling wet weather.

These are a timeless style; I had a pair back when I was in college in the late 70′s and the basic design has not changed at all. Check out Arrow Moccasins (arrowmoc.com) and the great grand-daddy of the style, Carl Dyer (carldyers.com) for other sources and pricing.

I am trying to locate these handmade boots in women’s. No luck at J. Crew.
Living in the mountains, need these, but can not find anyone at all that can be willing to take my money. Help

  4. Hey Sherry,

Have you looked into Quoddy directly online? They have a store section on their website which has both mens and womens sizes:

    http://quoddystore.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=55

Hope that works for you, let me know if you go ahead with them and how it works out?

  5. Sherry,

yes you can get ‘em online at the Quoddy store like 85 suggested. I think the J.Crew versions have a sheep skin type of lining in them …the Quoddy online store versions do not. But…I’ll bet if you contact them directly (e-mail/phone) you may be able to have them make a pair that are identical to the J.Crew versions.
