Burkman Bros. Spring/Summer 2010

One of our favorite lines going (made better by the fact the brothers are Canadian), Burkman Bros. return with a gorgeous looking new collection for spring/summer 2010. I love the mixing of patterns, from florals to plaid to tigers, with a good dose of solids thrown in as well. The distinctly South East Asian feel of the collection blends with the current trending in menswear (workwear and Americana) to create a fairly unique aesthetic, something hard to come by in such a saturated market. I would definitely rock most of these looks (without the hightops sneaks), especially when the weather hits 25 C+. Keep reading for more from the collection.

Tank Magazine: Workwear Editorial

Tank magazine recently put together this great editorial, entitled ‘Workwear – Wax, Tweed, Denim: Three Ways For Autumn/Winter.’ This great looking shoot is photographed by Tomas Falmer, styled by Richard Pierce, and features models Danny Arter and Marcel. The editorial rounds up some of the most-seen trends for autumn/winter, including waxed pieces, heavy tweeds and an excess of denim. This editorial really does it for me, specifically the first denim and tweed looks. Keep reading for the full shoot…

South 2 West 8 Spring/Summer 2010

Continuing with the spring/summer collection previews, here is a look at the one of my favorite lines at the moment, South 2 West 8 and their s/s 2010 lookbook. This collection doesn’t disappoint, with a great range of pieces done in their signature outdoors style, this time done in a bit of a brighter color pallet with lighter weight materials. I love the light weight parka style jackets and the great looking trousers. A few of the stand out pieces for me are the camo hunting jacket, the logging overalls, and the hooded bush shirt. The lookbook compliments the line itself, shot in an outdoors setting and executed with perfect styling. South 2 West 8 do it again with this amazing looking collection, now I just need to try to get my hands on some of these pieces. Keep reading for the full lookbook, and thanks to Inventory for the scans.

Wings + Horns Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

After impressing the heck out of us only days ago with a full preview of their spring/summer 2010 offerings, Wings + Horns has just released this lookbook for the collection, and I have to say I find it to be pretty disappointing. For a line with so much understated style the execution of this lookbook is a bit of a let down: strange model choice, poor styling, and an overall feel of amateurism. I do respect the choice of Scotland as the locale for this shoot, as opposed to keeping in Vancouver, so at least the background works with the product. I think this is the label’s first foray in to presenting more than just the clothes as promo for a collection, so much can be forgiven as a learning process. However, I hope that the line comes a lot more correct with imagery for fall/winter, because their contemporaries in the high-end streetwear game continue to bring the heat with the presentation of their lines, as it is an integral part of success these days. This is definitely meant as constructive criticism: Wings + Horns continues to be a label we love and are super excited about going forward. Keep reading for more shots from the lookbook.

Swet Goes Red Project

Prolific graffiti artist Swet and German spray paint company Molotow have teamed up for this collaborative project titled ‘Swet goes Red.’ The premise of the project is for Danish graffiti master to complete 100 pieces in 100 days. If that isn’t enough of a feat he is only allowed to use his signature Molotow Premium 400ml Swet100 Traffic Red for his pieces. The project pushes Swet creatively, as with only the use of one color it allows him to work more with his lettering and techniques. Another major part of the project is finding the time and places to complete 100 pieces in 100 consecutive days. With the project currently on its 43rd day with just over 50 to go it should be interesting to see the progression over the 100 day span, as well as the stories that go with them. Check Molotow to see the full project and keep reading for my favourites so far…

Most Anticipated 2010: Roska

London-based producer Wayne Goodlitt (aka Roska) is a former dancehall/grime MC who turned to making beats back in 2008; in the relatively short time since he’s been on the rise as on of the most sought-after producers/remixers in the ever-evolving and splintering UK Funky scene. Making highly percussive 4/4 house tracks that lean on the minimal side of things, Roska uses simple synth and horn flourishes to drive the songs forward, following the lead of wandering bongo and shaker loops. Creating a vibe that fills dancefloors, Roska avoids sounding like martini lounge background music, a problem that effects many of his contemporaries within UK Funky. Unlike many of the burgeoning and expanding genres coming out of London and the UK in general, this strand of Funky is perfect for a packed danceparty; girls won’t be scared off, and the tracks beg for long mixes and a steady flow (for a super informative breakdown, I highly recommend this XLR8R article). Keep reading for a few more favorite tracks from Roska… I’m definitely excited to see where he and other leaders of this scene take the music in 2010.

Edwin x Pendleton

The first collaboration of 2010 for Oregon-based Pendleton comes in the form of a flannel with denim detailing, courtesy of Japanese line Edwin. Both are known as purists in their trades: Pendleton for their unparalleled woolen milling, and Edwin for their production of super high-quality selvedge. This piece will be produced in a limited run of 300, and should hit select shelves come summer. Good to see that after a few questionable moves at the end of 09, Pendleton is back on the right collabo path, as it doesn’t get much better then Edwin when it comes to denim. Hit the jump for a couple more detail shots of this fine looking shirt.

Wings + Horns Spring/Summer 2010 Collections

Of all the lines about to arrive for spring/summer 2010, Wings + Horns is probably the one I’m probably most excited for, both to wear and sell. Constantly evolving and expanding ever since their inception, the label has released two collections for the upcoming retail season, entitled Archive and Research. Ranging from the basics they’re known and loved for to new cuts of chambray and recycled fleece, Wings + Horns covers a lot of ground without seeming disjointed or incoherent. I really like the Waterproof Chambray Mountain Parka (from the Research collection) pictured above, and I know /85 has got to be salivating in anticipation of rounding out the edges of his already impressive chambray arsenal. With a larger stockist than ever before, the line will be more accessible to a larger market, which is good for both the label and the consumer. Keep reading to view both collections, and thanks to Roden Grey for the images.
