It’s been an amazing couple weeks for techno releases: first, Pantha du Prince unveiled his much-anticipated third LP, entitled ‘Black Noise,’ and it’s the beautiful, spacial trip through layers of bass, noise, bells, wood blocks, etc that we expected from the German savant. Also, his former Dial label boss Pawel finally released his long-awaited self-titled debut solo LP, and the results definitely exceed my expectations. Taking the deep romantic sound of Lawrence and Pantha and adding a slightly more thumping tech edge during certain parts of the album, Pawel has created a true standout in the already much-vaunted Dial catalogue. Above are my two favorite cuts from their respective LPs, with ‘A Nomads Retreat’ by Pantha, and ‘Kramnik’ by Pawel. Such a treat to listen to music of this calibre, with masterfully crafted soundscapes shaped through subtle progressions… looks like 2010 is going to be another great year for electronic music. You can purchase both albums in high quality on Beatport.
