Red Bull Music Academy 2010 pt. 1

With this year’s Red Bull Music Academy almost half-way through in London UK, it’s a good time to review the highlights from the first couple weeks. An annual event, the RBMA gathers up-and-coming producers/musicians/etc from around the globe and unites them in a selected city to learn from established performers spanning various genres. The attendees gain exposure to the most crazy vault of expertise and equipment, while they continue to create and further their knowledge and capability at the same time. Featured above is an awesome live jazz/minimal/techno performance by Henrik Schwarz and Bugge Wesseltoft, and click through to see choice interview clips from Dam Funk, Roska, and Steve Reich.

Japanese label Hobo has teamed up with classic English footwear maker Clarks to produce this interesting collaboration. Hobo has taken three styles of Clarks, the Wallabe, Desert Boot and Desert Trek, and added their own unique touches. The Wallabe is a low cut with hiking style laces, the desert boot features metal studs and bright laces, and the Desert Trek has a tassel fringed edge. All styles are available exclusively outside of Japan at oki-ni, keep reading for more looks…

Mishka Spring 2010 Lookbook

Shot by the phenomenal Marley Kate for a third season in a row, Mishka is definitely bringing the heat with their spring 2010 lookbook. Moving further away from traditional ‘streetwear’ than ever before, this presentation of the spring collection is entitled ‘Trailblazing Through The City With Just A Pipe And A Guide,’ and cements Mishka’s place as the leaders of their marketplace, keeping the graphic street edge that made them so good in the first place while further developing their cut-and-sew offerings. Personally I think the lookbook is as good as it gets: sharply styled, well shot, solid model choices, seamless backdrop transitions, and captures the youth energy that makes this product pop. Mishka is a huge favorite of ours, and I can’t wait to cop a few pieces for spring, especially from the Death Adders collection… click through to see the entire lookbook.

Billy Reid Fall 2010

Recently crowned GQ’s Best New Menswear Designer In America for 2010, Billy Reid‘s fall 2010 collection (shown here at NY Fashion Week) is a testament to the designer’s effortless style and southern dandy roots. This is a line that defines ready-to-wear; the pieces can be mixed and matched endlessly, utilizing a decent range of colors, patterns, and fabrics, all the while exuding the classic workwear aesthetic that has lately been so often weakly imitated by other brands. The highlights for me include the knits and the suiting, which looks to be a rough wool or tweed… keep reading for more from this very impressive runway collection.

Lad Musician Spring/Summer 2010

From a runway collection presented (and somewhat overlooked) during the fall, Lad Musician‘s spring/summer offerings are just too good for me not to post, even three months later. The Japanese line has a 15 year history of super clean cuts and fits, influenced equally by high fashion and rock ‘n roll. The line offers a simple colour palate, with super skinny fits up top often complimented by pleated, looser fitting trousers. The standout pieces for me would be the leather jackets, especially the motorcycle style pictured above. Click through for more selections from this collection.

Band of Outsiders Fall/Winter 2010

Scott Sternberg gives us a look at at his latest venture with the fall/winter 2010 collection from his line Band of Outsiders. This collection doesn’t stray far from the aesthetic of his previous seasons, sticking to the Harvard hipster look. The outerwear is the focal point of the collection for me, but the Sperry collab is still looking strong and the sweatpant looks are great as well. I only have one problem with this collection, the brim toques, that is one accessory that I don’t want to see making a comeback. Other than that this is another great addition to the Band of Outsiders archives. Keep reading for more looks from the collection, as well as a few looks for girls as well…

Best of the Sartorialist: Early 2010

Its been a while since we did a ‘Best of Sartorialist’ post, so here is the second instalment. For the most part the Sarty has been shooting on location at all the major fashion weeks, bringing a lot of inspiration from the fashion industry’s major players. The looks mostly consist of well tailored blazers worn with jeans or more casual trousers, and the mixing of patterns together. Enough with the talk, I’ll let the images speak for themselves, keep reading for my favourite looks from Mr. Schuman from the early part of 2010…

Duckie Brown Fall/Winter 2010

New York-based designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver (a Canadian expat) make up the fantastic line, Duckie Brown. Their fall/winter 2010 runway collection from NY Fashion Week seems to take British styles to the next level: Scottish patterns and fabrics combined with inspiration from the English, with plaid on plaid, wool trousers, baracuta jackets, and brogue boots, all looking like a dapper hooligan. The mix of styles could come off too contrived or overdone, but they end up working really well together. Keep reading for more looks from the collection…
