For their fall/winter 2010 collection English label Maharishi is drawing heavily from WWII-type airforce garb, and overall the styling is super solid, with combinations that work as top-to-bottom looks, or pieces that can stand on their own. No reinvention of the wheel here, just quality reinterpretations of the classics… I especially feel the bomber jackets, the double-breasted shawl collar sweater, and the combat bo0ts with the contrast laces. Massive absence of bike content lately, but perhaps that’s due to a lack of quality edits such as this being produced. This short features Massan of Mash SF fame bombing through San Francisco, an environment we’ve seen him destroy plenty before, but yet it never gets old. This is the kind of riding we love here at 84/85… no tricks, just smashing. Be prepared for the last sequence, not for the faint of heart…
We haven’t dropped a hip-hop throwback jam in a hot minute, so here is a personal favorite of mine, Group Home with the two singles off their debut album ‘Livin’ Proof.’ These guys were the definition of early-mid nineties New York rap, from the grimy styles to the picture perfect Primo beats. Group Home was made up of rappers Lil’ Dap and Melachi the Nutcracker who both got their starts being featured on early Gang Starr releases. Eventually the two went on to drop their debut album ‘Livin’ Proof’ which featured production from DJ Premier on the two singles; Livin’ Proof and Supa Star, arguably some of Premiers best work to date. Check Livin’ Proof and keep reading for the video for ‘Supa Star’ after the jump…
I was first exposed to the Brooklyn-based Wolf + Lamb family through last year’s excellent RnB FreE.P. by Soul Clap, and have been enjoying the smooth productions of the label ever since. Individually founders Gadi Mizrahi and Zev have pretty solid discogs on their own, but it’s their work as Wolf + Lamb proper that is the most intriguing, as they explore the deeper ends of the techno and house spectrums, similar to Mathew Jonson and his Wagon Repair label. Besides producing great tunes, Wolf + Lamb run the music program at the renown Marcy Hotel in Brooklyn, put out an excellent podcast series, and consistently tour some of the most respected clubs and festivals in the world… there’s a fine line between much of this type of electronic music and the generic martini lounge soundtrack that I can do without, but Wolf + Lamb consistently release engaging music that pulses and progresses, making for songs that work in your living room just as well as they do on the dancefloor. Keep reading for a mini playlist of some of my favorite tracks from the label + their extended family.
R6 is back with their second collection for the upcoming autumn/winter 2010 season. The R6 line is a collaborative effort between 6876 and English leather artisans Regent, mixing old style craftsmanship with forward thinking modern design. The a/w 2010 lookbook is shot in a still life style series, photographed by Donald Milne. The line itself consists of a solid range of bags, including shoulder, tote, and backpack styles as well as belts, wallets and other accessories. Here we have a look at Japanese label White Mountaineering‘s fall/winter 2010 line, entitled ‘Exploration Party,’ courtesy of fashion snap. The collection is as zany as you’d expect from designer Yosuke Aizawa, but when you look at the pieces individually there’s a lot of quality wearable looks going on. I especially love the patterned knits, perhaps next fall is when I’ll finally break my mold of solid over pieces. Outside of the crazy Hannibal Lecter masks this is an awesome collection top to bottom… click through for more choice looks from the runway show.
Even though I’m about a month behind The Fash on this one, Gant Rugger‘s spring 2010 campaign/lookbook is still worth a feature, especially considering the line is quickly becoming one we’re most excited about come fall. A recent collaboration with taste (hype) maker ACL will only help to raise the brand’s profile with internet fashion heads who love all over the Americana trend, but in the end Gant has always been northeast prep, and the pieces will continue to speak for themselves. This lookbook follows three friends on a road trip across NY state, and I really enjoy the depth of colour, as well as the timeless styling… keep reading for more.
The highly anticipated L.L. Bean Signature collection was released yesterday online. The line is designed by Rogues Gallery founder Alex Carleton, who tapped into the vast L.L. Bean archives to put together a classic outdoors inspired collection. The line is made up of a variety of highly wearable pieces and looks, all done in that East Coast maritime style Bean and Carleton are known for. A few pieces of mention are the feather weight hunting jacket, the Ranger Moc, the Saltwater pull-over shirt, and the corduroy shorts. The collection lives up to all the hype and doesn’t disappoint, keep reading for more looks…
