Polarization: Part. 1

Here is a look at some pics from my day-to-day activities and adventures over the last month or so. It’s been a while since we have posted any personal images on here so I decided to put a few things up. It is a arbitrary mashup of things that I have captured over the last little while; hope you enjoy the randomness that is my life, more images after the jump…

Nostalgic Death Delirium by Matt Savage

Our good friend (and basically resident photographer) Matt Savage has recently completed his newest project entitled ‘Nostalgic Death Delirium,’ a short film shot entirely on Super 8. We were privileged to be part of this project, as some of the film you’ll see was taken on our GOC motorbike trip this past summer. We’re super stoked on the result, and combined with the amazing soundtrack provided by Stephen Graf and Scott Mcleod, this is a product Matt should proud of.

Hixsept ‘Lost Equilibrium’ A/W 2010-11

Parisian streetwear line Hixsept have showcased this amazing lookbook for their f/w 2010-11 collection titled, ‘Lost Equilibrium.’ The lookbook is an amazing visual presentation, art directed by Aurelien Arbet and Jeremie Egry. The collection itself features Peter Sutherland’s work with t-shirts featuring his black and white photos. The collection is simple overall with a few shirts, sweaters, t-shirts and pants. This is another impressive overall presentation from Hixsept, something that the line is becoming know for. Keep reading for more looks…

Cost for Supreme

Here is a look at a great upcoming collaboration between two New York greats, graffiti artist Cost and streetwear label Supreme. Supreme has teamed up with legendary NY street graffiti writer Cost, who had a huge presence in the downtown New York streets in the late 80′s and early 90′s. Along with his partner in crime Revs they introduced different mediums into the street bombing realm, such as wheat-paste posters and roller paint hits on high visibility rooftops. The two made a huge name for themselves in the graffiti movement, and originated a new style or way of getting your name and message up and noticed. Trust Supreme to bring some true light to one of the street bombing pioneers and game changers, Cost. These four t-shirts designed by Cost will be released online and in the New York Supreme location on Oct. 14th, and in Japan on the 16th. Keep reading for more pics and a write up on Cost from Supreme themselves…

Catalog Gallery Presents: The Dark – Postulate Dementia Show

For the opening of the new Catalog Gallery, October 8th in Gastown, Vancouver, the team has shot this video promoting The Dark, who’s work will be featured in the gallery’s inaugural show. Putting all that East Van grime on full display, I think this video captures the aesthetic of the Catalog crew and their vision perfectly… can’t wait to see what else is to come.

Actual Pain ‘Mystery Faith’ F/W 2010 Preview

Stepping away from our Japanese fall/winter binge for a moment, favorite Seattle-based graphic line Actual Pain just released a few previews of their upcoming ‘Mystery Faith’ collection, to be released in early August. There’s no other label who’s art is consistently this good, and season after season AP designer TJ Cowgill sets the benchmark for the darker end of streetwear. Can’t wait to cop a crewneck or hoodie for the winter, click through for the rest of this preview.

Trusst Club + Yves Laroche opening party

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the launch of Trusst Club, in conjunction with the opening of the new Yves Laroche gallery space here in Montreal. Trusst Club is a new venture of my two close friends Andrew Ly and Melissa Matos (along with a few other contributors), providing a physical retail space for new designers and an agency to actively promote them. The above video was shot by Kevin Calero as a visual loop for the premier, and in their words is

‘A medium, a dialogue, a proposition. A visual influence reflecting the cyclical nature of thoughts and other ideas. A collection of shifting aesthetics and form, timeless in nature. A venue for international correspondence; a platform for creative evolution. A community. An inspired showcase, a contemporary tool.’

All in the evening was fantastic; a live performance by Le Matos, plenty of refreshments, and a massive show of support from the Montreal creative community. Keep reading for photos of the space, products, and event, courtesy of J’AdOre.

Tuesday Entertainment

Here’s a quick roundup of some of the best of the internet over the past few days. First off, XLR8R just dropped a new podcast helmed by 84/85 favorite FaltyDL. Frenetic as his production styles, the mix contains new original Falty material alongside tracks from his contemporaries, mixed together with some classic garage and 2step. Available for download here.

The Atavistic Urge: Johny Coast and Seth Rosko is a collaborative film effort profiling Brooklyn talent by  John Watson (aka Prolly) and Sara Kinney. Good dialogue from both builders and the video itself is very well shot, making for a quality watch for any 2 wheeled enthusiast.

Lastly, Hypebeast just released this interview with Mr. Cartoon regarding his collaboration with Nike Sportswear to design the US World Cup 2010 uniforms, along with his thoughts on being Mexican-American and how it’s influenced his work. It’s pretty amazing how someone who came exclusively from tattoo and graffiti culture can rise to such corporate heights, and goes to show how dynamic the shift in mass marketing culture has been over the last decade.
