It’s Better In The Wind

We’ve been waiting for the completion of this short film for over a year now, since we first caught word of Scott Toepfer’s photo and video project, It’s Better In The Wind. Shot on a mix of Super 8 and digital, this film is an honest documentation of the bropack and the road (and dried out riverbeds / salt flats) that binds them. Anybody who’s ever ridden any distance with their true friends knows what an experience this is: as rewarding as it gets, and revealing of your real values and enjoyments in life. In Toepfer’s words,

‘I have been slowly editing the footage into a visual scrapbook of sorts for those who partook, and those who followed us via the web. No preaching the triumphs and failures of the motorcycle industry, no divisive commentary between manufacturers and styles… just a collection of imagery that will hopefully inspire more people to take to the road and discover what there is outside of our respective communities.’

Congrats to Scott and his crew, a project like this isn’t easy to finish. Hope to see plenty more from him in the future, and I’m sure we will: you can continue support IBITW through the online store.

84/ Cycle Commuter Soundtrack

Every morning I step up to a 5+ km cycle commute to the office, rain or shine. Generally this includes me making ‘bold’ moves in traffic, and a shaken fist or words exchanged with motorists: these are the joys of mashing through the city. I really enjoy the experience, gets the blood flowing before work and embeds exercise in my day. It also gives me a chance to bump some proper hardcore in my earbuds, which definitely adds to my stoke. Seeing as it’s now basically full-on westcoast fall/winter and the ride ain’t getting any easier, I thought I’d share some motivational tunes just in case you need something to get you pumped up for your ride/bus trip/brisk walk/whatever. Some new jams and some classics, more after the jump.

Brixton Holiday 2011 Video

As per usual Brixton brings it all together with this holiday ’11 video presentation, seamlessly incorporating all the elements that make the line so appealing. On an anecdotal note, I recently purchased a hoodie from their f/w ’11 collection and have pretty much worn it every day since: both online and on the body Brixton ftw.

Poler Camping Stuff: Rucksack & Duffaluffagus Bags

Poler Camping Stuff are pretty much the ideal line for the 8485 boys, we love the outdoors/camping/motorbikes/roadtrips/etc, and Poler Stuff make the goods to make all these things happen. We featured Poler Stuff a little while ago, introducing the line and their small range of outdoors products, and now they are starting to add to their product line. The newest additions to the Poler range are these two styles of bags, the Rucksack and the Dufflaluffagus bags. The Rucksack is done in a classic rucksack silhouette in the ‘furry camo’ print, and the Duffaluffagus bag features hidden shoulder straps, wide mouth zippers and Velcro straps on the bottom to hold a skateboard. Not only are the bags themselves good but you gotta love Polers’ photography/product shots.

Support: BNE Water Foundation

BNE is a world famous graffiti artist who gained much of his attention from doing a very large scale DIY sticker campaign spanning across the globe. BNE has been an active and prolific graffiti writer since the early 90′s, know strictly as a graffiti bomber, which means mostly using stickers, tags, and throw-ups to get your name up, illegally (don’t confuse him with any of these ‘street artists’). I respect BNE immensely as a writer, but the main focus of doing this post is to shed some light on BNE’s latest project, BNE Water Foundation which is a non-profit organization started in 2011 as an effort to supply clean, safe drinking water and sanitation to people in poverty stricken and undeveloped areas in countries around the world.

“We are a global movement dedicated to bringing clean, safe water, and sanitation to people living in extreme poverty. About one billion people right now do not have access to clean drinking water. 42,000 people die every week due to unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions. 90% of these deaths are children under five years old. It’s unconscionable that we allow this to go on. Join us and be part of the solution.”

BNE is using his name and voice to do something positive with the exposure he has gained for himself through tireless nights of hard work hitting the streets. This is a project that I thoroughly support, and if you do too you are now able to make a donation to the foundation through the website. You can also (for the first time ever) purchase BNE sticker packs for $20 to help support the cause, and in the near future purchase original, one of a kind art from a wide range of artist from their online gallery (the online gallery is coming soon). Show your support to this great cause by making a donation, or by simply spreading the word. Head over to BNE Water for all the info.

John Copeland: Recent Works

John Copeland is a New York-based artist and motorcycle builder, as well as a member of White Knights in the House of Kolor, a Brooklyn-based motorcycle club and art collective with other members like Wes Lang and Jeffro Schaad. I became familiar with John through the motorcycle blog world, more specifically the WKITHOK blog. I am a big fan of his style, with lose/messy brush strokes with dark and interesting subject matter seen throughout. Here is a look at his recent works over the last year or so, keep reading for more of his paintings as well as some of his drawing…

Jeremy Jones ‘Bike of Bolts’

This might be a little old in internet days, so apologies if you’ve seen this already… but I hadn’t, and Jeremy Jones was one of my favourite riders growing up, as one of the original eight Forum team members. Shot in a skatepark and on the hiway, this vid explains how Jones got in to bikes and the cutomization of his ’03 Sporty. Pretty rad.

The North Face Fall/Winter 2011 Lookbook

Here’s a studio-slick f/w ’11 lookbook from The North Face, which appears to be an editorial although I haven’t been able to discern the source. I figure editorial because I’m doubtful mainline TNF would a) shoot a lookbook or b) use a babyface model if they did. That being said, I’m feeling the styling and setup here, and as per always with The North Face there’s some killer pieces, such as the leather brim hat featured above and all the bags seen throughout. Who am I kidding, I like pretty much everything here, the 84/85 boys are big TNF fans, a perfect balance of classic styling with the high functionality you need to function outdoors during the westcoast winter. More after the jump, click pics for full size.
