Ad Appreciation: Ralph Lauren Purple Label

Ah, payday… also know as the day of purchasing $20 magazines. And on the inside cover of the new GQ Style there’s a massive foldout for Ralph Lauren Purple Label, which to this day remains probably my favorite series of print ads ever, for their model choices, styling, and overall presentation. Purple Label is an aesthetic I would need jump about 6 tax brackets to fully embrace, but I have a strong appreciation for their take on American luxury, in the same way as I appreciate Tom Ford and his imagery. Highlights from Purple Label campaigns include hyper-masculine models, boldly contrasting colors and patterns, and an uncompromising take modern wealth. I wish I had a scanner so I could share the newest ads, but for now click through to see a few older favorites.

Ad Appreciation: Ryan McGinley for Missoni

Once again its been a while since we did a ‘ad appreciation’ feature, and last time it just so happened to be Mr. McGinley shooting for Wrangler with their ‘We are Animals’ campaign. This time we feature the newest ad campaign for Missoni, shot by who else but Ryan McGinley. The shoot was for their Fall/Winter 2009 collection which features models Hanne Gaby Odiele and Devin Childers sitting or riding in the back of a driving truck, giving the images a great sense of movement. I love the concept and the finished result, giving McGinley another great shoot to add to his expanding commercial portfolio. Keep reading for the full campaign…

Ad Appreciation: Ryan McGinley for Wrangler

wrangler3

It’s been a hot minute since we did an ad appreciation post, so this time around we feature the ‘We Are Animals’ ad campaign for Wrangler, shot by Ryan McGinley in his signature style. The campaign features the animals (models) half-naked in an eerie type outdoors setting. I love the overall feel of the campaign, but I am a huge fan of McGinley’s work so it isn’t hard for me to like. More of my favorite shots after the jump…
