CREEP by Hiroshi Awai Fall/Winter 2012

Been on the net for a couple days but we’ve been showcasing the designer for a while now, so here’s the forthcoming f/w ’12 collection fromĀ CREEP by Hiroshi Awai nonetheless. The Canadian-based Japanese designer treads a fairly safe path with this collection, and while half of the looks are unfortunately ultra trend centric, the stronger styles (e.g. the ones showcased above) are totally wearable and well composed. The line is available through our homies at Four Horsemen, more of the lookbook after the jump.

Ransom ‘Resort’ Collection 2012

So Ransom is back, and what better way to re-enter the market than with this pure fire collection and accompanying lookbook, which is equally on point. Seriously though, we’ve missed Ransom, holding it down for Canadian streetwear in a big way. The entire line is now produced in the USA so no more janky sewing and a more accurate pricepoint, and this collection looks so hype top to bottom. Yeah, it’s camo, plaid, and basics, but it’s done right and it’s from TO, so we’re biased. This lookbook is the clincher, great model choice and look composition. More after the break, and the collection is available online and at you local stocklist now.

Whiz Limited Fall/Winter 2011

Spotted over at the Beast, Japanese label Whiz Limited is one I was previously unfamiliar with, but at this point I’m never surprised when another immaculately-styled line surfaces from Japan that looks amazing and is only available in their domestic market. Rather than talk about how great this collection looks, I’ll take this opportunity to reflect on the lack of quality labels sustaining themselves in Canada at present. Granted we fight two big factors that the Japanese don’t, population density and geography: there’s just not enough people to drive highly targeted retail sales, and we’re spread out across too much land, basically pinned along the border in a few major cities. That being said, I think we also (as a people) lack a certain attention and care for detail and a passion for domestic manufacturing, two things that make the Japanese menswear industry so appealing to my sensibilities. This topic is probably more suited for an essay than a singular post, but feel free to comment if you have an opinion on this subject… and click through for more from Whiz Limited’s f/w 2011.

Club Monaco F/W 2010 Looks

Switching it up from all the Japanese content, here is a look at Canadian retailer Club Monaco and their looks for fall/winter 2010. The ‘Club’ has always been very hit and miss for me through the years, but over the last few seasons they have been streamlining into a well put-together collection. You cant help but think that they have been taking notes from their American contemporaries in J. Crew, but that certainly isn’t a bad thing. The looks presented here are very on-trend, with the classic Club Monaco styling mixed in. I really like the reversible overcoat, the grey flannel suiting, and the accessories that they’re always good for. Club Monaco show they are not ones to be forgotten in the North American market…
