Loving this video from Specialized-Lululemon featuring photographer Emily Maye, who shot the team while training in Portugal during December 2012. Its Maye’s ability to capture the non-race moments that works so well here, but honestly this strikes a special chord because good friend / Stucky Life cohort Gillian Carleton is part of the Velocio team and is featured predominantly throughout these photos (and has been on a tear recently in general).

Stunner of a lookbook from Rapha for f/w 2012 shot by Ben Ingham, who the brand has worked with on projects before. It’s become commonplace for the London cycling lifestyle/performance powerhouse label to present top media on a regular basis now, from short films documenting the beauty, pain and backstories of road riding through to these seasonal lookbooks showcasing much more than product. Cycling is a lifestyle that can consume all so quickly, so if you’re not afflicted with it you may not understand… but those who do, do. More selects from this series after the jump.

Two new packs from Chrome, the Delta and the District. Feeling these blacked-out with reflective hits, and love ‘em or hate ‘em Chrome builds high-functioning well-designed bags every time. Although these aren’t part of their made-in-USA line for $140 you can’t complain.

Stunning ride through north-west Scotland by the Rapha crew. And, of course, beautifully filmed for good measure. Gotta give props for utilizing a section of Glen Gould’s ‘The Idea Of North’ recording to track this video, a nice piece of Canadiana in there. The visuals of riding coastline in the cold rain is something we can definitely relate to (and always enjoy), go here to learn more about this route and vid.

We’re not really Rapha gentlemen types, but a video of this quality is hard to deny… plus Brendan is a partial road bike guy now, and I’m getting close. This short film shows the Continental team tacking Vancouver’s Triple Crown, aka summiting Grouse, Seymour, and Cypress mountains in one day. This is a bit of a feat, as anyone who’s been knows that the North Shore mountains are no joke. Beautifully shot and classy as all hell, this is a great summary of Rapha’s Vancouver experience; also make sure to read the accompanying articles here.

Here is a look at a video from an event that really means a lot to myself and many of other cyclists here in Victoria, BC, the re-opening of the Commonwealth Legacy Velodrome. Victoria hosted the Commonwealth Games back in 1994 and for the games the city built one of only a few velodromes in all of Canada. I was lucky enough to attend a few races at the Games and it was amazing to watch. The velodrome housed our track community here up until 2008 and then was closed due to safety concerns and general neglect. Over the last few years the cycling community and velodrome association was fighting to bring it back, and with a lot of effort and support they were fortunate enough to get it back in action. The grand re-opening was on July 29th and I was there to show my support, as was Brian Park who put together this great video from the opening night. Thanks to all those who came out to support!

With the cold, rainy west coast fall bearing down on us with an imminent arrival, I’ve been back on the hunt for a new waterproof shell for the daily bike commute to work. Blessed with a temperate enough climate to cycle year round, all that’s needed is the right protection from the elements. After careful consideration I think I’ve settled on Patagonia, which is funny because growing up my parents swore by the California-based brand, always keeping their multi-colored fleece jackets and parkas in the closet. Looking at Patagonia now, you see a brand in touch with it’s past, but also looking to the future; with contemporary designs, pieces that work for both adventuring and the city, and the most well explained manufacturing and environmental policies you’ll see on the web, Patagonia clearly understands what the modern consumer is looking for. And on a more aesthetics-based level, the pieces just look good… definitely feeling the throwback colorways of the current collection, including the long sleeve pictured above… keep reading for more of my favorites.

Following the Cervelo Test Team through the grueling road racing circuit, I really enjoyed watching Beyond The Peloton through the 2009 season… but at that point the videos were only available to stream on their website. However, for 2010 they’ve decided to put them on youtube, with embed capability no less! I’m not a cycling jock nor do I think I ever will be (although as I get older I end up doing a lot of things I thought I’d never do…), but the documentation of these professional road racers is so well done that you can’t help but get in to the spandex spirit.
