SENSE: ripvanwinkle Fall/Winter 2011

ripvanwinkle is yet another Japanese label that i’ve been tracking over the past couple years. A bit more dress than streetwear, they also produce a bunch of excellent basics pieces, most notably sweats. And while their own f/w presentation isn’t really my thing aesthetically, the always-excellent SENSE just did this editorial shoot for their Oct 2011 edition, showcasing the line how I would have. Peep the seasonal catalog here, and more editorial shots after the jump.

Street Etiquette: Sewn From the Soul

The Street Etiquette team have put together this fantastic online editorial titled ‘Sewn From the Soul,’ which coincides with Black History Month. In their words, “Sewn From the Soul is an online editorial project brought to light by seven friends who have all collaborated together in order to see a bigger picture; ultimately meshing and intertwining style and history”. They pay homage to the likes of Miles Davis, Nat ‘King’ Cole, and  Huey P. Newton, taking inspiration from these great individuals and mixing in their own personal style attributes. Along with the editorial they have also put together a behind the scenes video to go along with it. keep reading for both the video and the shoot…

Tank Magazine: Workwear Editorial

Tank magazine recently put together this great editorial, entitled ‘Workwear – Wax, Tweed, Denim: Three Ways For Autumn/Winter.’ This great looking shoot is photographed by Tomas Falmer, styled by Richard Pierce, and features models Danny Arter and Marcel. The editorial rounds up some of the most-seen trends for autumn/winter, including waxed pieces, heavy tweeds and an excess of denim. This editorial really does it for me, specifically the first denim and tweed looks. Keep reading for the full shoot…

Herring & Herrings Editorials

HerringHerringforSurface04

NYC-based collaborative photographers Dimitri Scheblanov and Jesper Carlson, aka Herring & Herrings, have recently shot a Gucci-styled editorial for an upcoming feature in Surface magazine, and thankfully Design Scene got their hands on a preview. Utilizing some sort of crazy radioactive effect, this looks to be one of the most unique editorial spreads to come out in a while. I really enjoy the work H&H have done in the past for publications such as Kurv, Pulp, Fallen, and D Mode, managing to photograph their subjects in an always-striking manner. Keep reading for more from this and other shoots, and visit their website to see more editorial + corporate work.

Josh Beech for FutureClaw

kingsgold1

The state of styling in men’s fashion has never been better in my opinion, mostly due to the new breed of model dominating the campaigns and editorials. Maybe it’s because I share a similar look myself to a lot of these dudes, but overall I think it’s just because I can connect better aesthetically with this style of presentation, as opposed to a traditional RL, Zegna or Boss campaign, or your typical editorial from GC or Details. From Cole Mohr to Jonathan Kroppmann to Ash Stymest, badassery is key, and while everyone is skinny as hell, there’s definitely a strong theme of new masculinity. The most dominant of all these models has to be Josh Beech, who has worked for everyone from Burberry to Fujiwara. It seems like Beech can’t take a bad picture, and any designer who has him wear their pieces is better off for it. Here we showcase the new face of male modeling in an editorial for FutureClaw, courtesy of The Fashionisto. Shot in Egypt, there is some pretty epic scenes going on here. Dash Snow

dash

Artist Dash Snow is featured in the spring/summer issue of Muse magazine in a photo editorial tiled ‘Dash,’ shot by Mario Sorrenti. Snow is a ex-graffiti artist turned fine artist from the downtown New York scene coming up in the early 2000′s. He was an infamous member of the Irak graffiti crew and muse of the very well know photographer Ryan McGinley. Snow now concentrates his efforts on doing collage, installation and photography work, and he has shown in galleries such as The Dietch, The Royal Acadamy in London and the Whitney. Keep reading for more pics from the shoot and and check here for some of Snow’s Polaroid work, which I love…
