A Closer Look: R. Newbold Fall/Winter 2009

With the constant flow of workwear and utilitarian styling being seen here on 84/85, it’s always nice to come across a line that you weren’t aware of previously, and this time it is the Japanese brand R. Newbold. Here is a view in to the lookbook from their current fall/winter collection as well as an editiorial shot for No-Non magazine. The collection is full of classic outdoors/workwear style pieces complimented with unique details and great usage of colour and prints. I am a huge fan of their outerwear pieces including the shawl-collared denim and varsity jackets. This is a line that I will be keeping an eye on, but with it having little to no presence in North America yet I probably won’t see it in person anytime soon. Bleu de Paname Fall/Winter 2009

bdp4

Bleu de Paname is a line that is fairly new to the market, but with their aesthetic as a ‘heritage’ style workwear brand I guess you could say they are a new old brand. That being said, I am quite a fan of their offerings to date, and their fall/winter 2009 collection is another great showing. The line is also designed and produced in France, keeping with the heritage brand mentality and concept. Their F/W 2009 collection is chalk full of denim pieces, with jeans done in 16.5 oz selvedge and great looking shirting. The other highlights of the collection are the jackets, including the moleskin parka, utilitarian style jacket, and the varsity. This could definitely be my favorite new line of the last few seasons. Woolrich Woolen Mills Fall/Winter 2009

woolrich-woolen-mills-1

A brand that fits the 84/85 aesthetic to a T, Woolrich Woolen Mills fall 2009 collection designed by Daiki Suzuki (of Engineered Garments fame) hits all the right notes with amazing looking fits, materials, patterns, and combinations. Ever since I found my first vintage Woolrich flannel I’ve been obsessed with the utter classicism of the brand, with it’s rich history and adherence to tradition, while still leading the current workwear trend through the Woolen Mills label. With Suzuki at the helm this brand can’t do any wrong in my books; I definitely need to add one of the unstructured blazers for my fall/winter wardrobe… keep reading for more looks from this spot-on collection.

DQM Fall/Winter 2009 Lookbook

dqm-2009-fall-collection-lookbook-161

Dave’s Quality Meat is back with a new website and a f/w 09 lookbook, which showcases their basics-oriented outdoorsy collection, and continues the transition from a purist skateboard streetwear past into a solid modern menswear line. In their words, ‘Entering its seventh year, DQM continues to push the envelope for a new board and bike generation, at the same time never forgetting where we came from: thanks to friends and family, here and gone. We endure because you do.’

While maybe not the most exciting or progressive thing we’ve seen for this season, you still couldn’t go wrong with any of this looks: masculine, understated, and classic, DQM is on the right path for a long future in the ever-toughening menswear market. More shots from the lookbook after the jump (thanks to Slamxhype for doing the screencap work).

Pendleton Fall/Winter 2009

pendleton2

Pendleton is definitely a favourite here with the 84/85 boys, and their flannels are staples in both of our wardrobes, so I decided to showcase their Fall 2009 collection that is now available at both Tres Bien and End. The collection is looking solid, with great plaid and check print flannels and shirts, denim western shirts, a native art style cardigan and some other great looking pieces such as jackets, scarves and blankets graced with their famous Navajo prints. Another standout piece is the weekender bag in a green/blue plaid with leather accents. Pendleton is a great look for the fall/winter time with their classic looking pieces that look great and keep you warm, what else do you need really?

Warriors of Radness Fall 2009

worriors

Seeing as it is actually still summer out there it can be a little tough looking at all these Fall/Winter collections, so why not take a look at the Warriors of Radness F/W 2009 line as they are from LA where the summer never stops. The collection is full of great vintage surf inspired pieces, from tanks to tops to pants to jackets, they are definitely covering some ground for Fall. I really dig the overall aesthetic of the line, staying true to their LA surf roots and making a line that epitomizes the ‘rad’ beach lifestyle. My favorite pieces are the corduroy pull over and yacht jackets, the acid wash jeans (I know), and the sleeveless zip-up hoodie. Warriors of Radness are keeping it real for themselves, bringing that full on late eighties/early nineties LA surf/skate throwback vibe, which I can get down with. Ad Appreciation: Ryan McGinley for Missoni

missoni

missoni1

Once again its been a while since we did a ‘ad appreciation’ feature, and last time it just so happened to be Mr. McGinley shooting for Wrangler with their ‘We are Animals’ campaign. This time we feature the newest ad campaign for Missoni, shot by who else but Ryan McGinley. The shoot was for their Fall/Winter 2009 collection which features models Hanne Gaby Odiele and Devin Childers sitting or riding in the back of a driving truck, giving the images a great sense of movement. I love the concept and the finished result, giving McGinley another great shoot to add to his expanding commercial portfolio. Keep reading for the full campaign…

Folk Fall/Winter 2009

1428bf

Folk is a label that recently crossed my radar, and combined with their shoe line, Shofolk, this online retailer/brand is certainly worth checking out. Their fall/winter collection if full of solid looking basics, but it’s their knitwear that really stands out. With pieces all made by specialists in the fabric/design, Folk has the right idea when it comes to brand development and retailing. All the knits come from Peru and Uruguay, featuring the best merino and alpaca wools. The prices are about what you’d expect for this quality, and cuts and color combinations are tops. Also, Shofolk (all made in the shoe mecca of Portugal) is looking great for this season, with slim soles and tons of color choices. Hit the jump for more looks for this noteworthy line.
