Maybe my least favourite seasonal collection since we started posting nonnative? And I omitted the looks that seemed to include Ugg boots as the footwear of choice… take a look back at their s/s 2010 collection and you’ll see what I’m getting at: perhaps it’s a loss of masculinity to a collection that couldn’t afford to tone that down much in the first place, but there’s something about this lookbook that just ain’t working for me. As always with this line I dig everything on a piece-by-piece basis, but the overall styling of this run isn’t the one. Fall/winter is always a stronger move from most labels regardless, and we’ll look for nonnative to bounce back later in 2013.

Nonnative Fall/Winter 2012 Lookbook

Most excellent lookbook from Nonnative for their f/w 2012 collection Stumptown Sidewalk, which we previewed back here. Shot in Portland OR, this is 84/85 ish to the fullest: well considered with product showcased effortlessly within a bigger artistic idea. More lookbooks like this please (maybe it’s that PWN vibe that got me).. keep reading for the rest of the spread.

Nonnative Fall/Winter 2012

One of of favourite complete labels for years now, Nonnative has just released this first look at their f/w 2012 collection entitled Stumptown Sidewalk, paying tribute to Portland OR street fashion. May seem like a bit of a head shaker but the Pac Northwest influence is definitely there, mostly in the form of dad-fashion such as hiking boots, sock tucks, slight (inadvertent) pant crops, vests and plaids. As always with Nonnative I’m super hyped on the styling and cohesiveness of the lookbook, the Japanese label really never fails and the fall/winter seasons are always especially strong… more after the jump.

Nonnative Fall/Winter 2011

Undoubtedly one of my favourite Japanese labels going, Nonnative always presents a sweeping, cohesive, and forward-thinking (while remaining generally wearable) collection season after season. Phenomenal quality and fits in real life, the line justifies it’s high pricepoint through consistency and unique positioning, mastering ideas in men’s fashion that other labels hint at. For the f/w 2011 run we see the continuation of many styling points from Nonnative: slim trousers, more voluminous overpieces, pockets a plenty, and a fairly restrained colour palate leaning towards earthtones and navy. Great stuff as is to be expected, keep reading for the entire lookbook.

Nonnative Summer 2011 Lookbook

Just when we thought we’d seen all the mustachioed styles for s/s 2011 from Nonnative back here, they go and release a summer-specific lookbook for their current collection, meaning no outerwear and lots of cropped pants. Not mad though, as the Japanese label always styles to the max, with forward-thinking collections that don’t alienate the everyman. Love the composition of these looks, featuring a few short-sleeve and lightweight check dress shirts, my personal favorites for the summer months. More great style from Nonnative, keep reading for rest.

Nonnative Spring/Summer 2011 Lookbook

One of our absolute favourite lines over the past few seasons, Japan’s Nonnative has just released this lookbook spotlighting their s/s 2011 collection. As per usual the composition of these looks is second to none; both the actual pieces and the way they’re styled is a few steps ahead of the rest of the pack, managing to toe the line between fashion-forward and easily wearable. For me the highlights of the collection remains the jeans + pants, with unique cuts and the best take on cargo going… click through for the complete lookbook.

Mountain Research Fall/Winter 2010

Japan’s General Research design co. has produced some of most intriguing collections of past couple years, with themes running from prison garb through to naval uniforms.  For f/w 2010 the focus is on mountaineering (with anarchist leanings), featuring a huge range of clothing and accessories all highly stylized yet still understated, in the best Japanese way. The line parallels labels like Wings & Horns and Nonnative for me, all collections that you can easily integrate and will stand the test of time… check my choice season picks from Mountain Research after the jump.

Nonnative Fall/Winter 2010 Pt. 2

Brendan posted the original Nonnative series of looks for f/w 2010 back here, and now the Japanese label has released more styles from this collection, entitled Yet Hunting Club. Riding the outdoors/workwear wave without looking too ‘on trend,’ Nonnative carries on the Japanese tradition of just simply being better then their contemporaries… click through for more.
