Todd Snyder Autumn/Winter 2011

NYC-based Todd Snyder (former head designer at J. Crew) gives us a look in to his debut eponymous collection for a/w 2011, taking his experience with shaping the Americana aesthetic (he also spent years at Ralph Lauren) and further refining the dress/casual silhouette. There seems to be a bevy of reference points here: besides the immediate RL and J. Crew influences, I also see a lot of Wings + Horns, hints of Adam Kimmel, and strands of Japanese high street (i.e. Nonnative and Victim). I’m especially feeling the knit pieces and the way they’ve been paired with denim and subtle collared shirt / dress shoe combos, reminds me a lot of my work wardrobe Monday – Friday. An expansive collection from a name I’m sure we’ll be hearing more from, hit the jump for more looks.

Ad Appreciation: Ralph Lauren Purple Label

Ah, payday… also know as the day of purchasing $20 magazines. And on the inside cover of the new GQ Style there’s a massive foldout for Ralph Lauren Purple Label, which to this day remains probably my favorite series of print ads ever, for their model choices, styling, and overall presentation. Purple Label is an aesthetic I would need jump about 6 tax brackets to fully embrace, but I have a strong appreciation for their take on American luxury, in the same way as I appreciate Tom Ford and his imagery. Highlights from Purple Label campaigns include hyper-masculine models, boldly contrasting colors and patterns, and an uncompromising take modern wealth. I wish I had a scanner so I could share the newest ads, but for now click through to see a few older favorites.

Ralph Lauren ‘American Holiday’ Fall 2009

Picture 133

Ralph Lauren is a line that epitomizes the americana styling that is so prominent in mens fashion these days. Here is a closer look at their fall 2009 ‘American Holiday’ collection, another classic looking offering. It is full of great pieces and looks, with the highlights being the Yukon Down jacket, the toggle and mock neck sweaters, the hooded workshirt and the accessories like the shearling and cashmere patch gloves and the brass bear belt.  I also really like the styling of the pieces, especially the boots with rolled pants and thick pulled up socks. Keep reading for my favorite looks and pieces from the ‘American Holiday’ collection…
