Montana x Upper Playground

Picture 98

Spain’s Montana Colors has teamed up with San Francisco’s Upper Playground for this new limited edition series of artist designed spray cans. Montana Colors is a spray paint company making and providing the highest quality spray paint, and variety of colors on the market. Upper Playground is the amazing art collective/clothing company that collaborates and works with a wide variety of artists from all over. The two companies have come together to create these limited run of cans designed by Sam Flores, The Mac and Retna, Mr. Cartoon and MQ. The collaboration looks great with a good variety of artists and styles utilized for the project. My favorite has to be the MQ design as he out of all of these artists is a true graffiti ‘bomber,’ and would actually use his cans for the purpose of them… to bomb. Retna: American Revolutionaries

retna

The new ad campaign for the documentary series ‘American Revolutionaries’ focused on African-American musicians and their influence upon American culture has been done by the amazingly talented graffiti turned fine artist, Retna from the Seventh Letter crew. Oishii Creative is the firm that paired the two up for this project and the founder and creative director Ismael Obregon had this to say about the project: “Our goal was to connect Ovation TV with the next generation of artists, while finding creative ways to use the outdoor medium. Our relationship with Retna is longstanding and we are thrilled to bring his art back to the streets in a whole new way.” The end result is absolutly beautiful with Retna lending his hand, talents and signature style to portraits of musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Tina Turner, Miles Davis and Nat King Cole for the campaign. I am a huge fan of his work so I was pleased to see him getting this huge amount of exposure which I’m sure will lead to other projects of this kind in the future. More pics of the posters from the campaign as well as a few videos of Retna in action after the jump…
