Japanese label The River present their f/w 2012 collection entitled Gentle Bridge, a take on British trad styles utilizing UK deadstock fabrics. There are a few bands / artists that should just never be covered: the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Neil Young, etc… there’s very little possibility anyone could ever do a song by one of these legends real justice. However, here’s a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Stolen Car’ from his 1980 album ‘The River’ that truly gives me chills. Of course, it would have to be by my favorite contemporary singer/songwriter, Mike Kinsella, aka Owen, who adds his personal touch to the track (hint: 2 wheels instead of 4). This song is so on point, lyrically and musically, as it foreshadowed the direction The Boss would go with his next album, 1982’s ‘Nebraska.’ Appearing on Owen’s last release, ‘The Seaside EP,’ this certainly gets the excitement up for his upcoming LP to be released in September, entitled ‘New Leaves.’
